Wet n Wild Sugar Plum Fairy is a dupe for MAC’s Rebel!

Swatches: Left is MAC, right is Wet n Wild
Lips: Left is MAC, right is Wet n Wild

Swatches show the difference in finishes, and a slight variation in color but it is almost undetectable on the lips!

Don’t you love finding the colors you love for cheaper? MAC Lipsticks can be around $15+, while Wet N Wild Lipsticks are usually around $2. Talk about a deal!

Rabbit Reviews: Sephora Primal Instincts Eyeshadow Palette

Hello, Sephora! I am in love.

I don’t like to buy single eyeshadows because I’m not always great at coordinating shades together. Therefore, I tend to go for palettes with a ton of already coordinated shadows, and they are usually cheaper than buying individually. I was looking for a great neutral palette that was versatile, affordable and would last me a long time.

Sephora’s Primal Instincts Eyeshadow Palette answered my prayers and it’s probably the best palette Sephora has made. Ever! First of all, the colors are beautiful and pigmented. There is a nice mix of shimmery and matte colors and the colors are flattering for all skin tones. They go on smoothly, last a long time and are super blendable. Plus, you can create so many different looks, from something very neutral to something incredibly dramatic and smokey. Very high quality for a Sephora palette and the best part is, it was only $28. A total steal!

I definitely have some favorites. The two colors on the far right, Matte Brown and Must Have, are great as liners, and the white shade on the top far left, Beige, is a perfect highlighting color. For the fall, I’ve been using the trio of Sable and Gold (second and third shades from the top left) and Mahogany (third shade from the bottom left) as an everyday look and it’s beautiful and warm. When I need something a bit cooler, Camel and Bronze (first and second shades from the bottom left) together or Tea Rose (third shade from top right) and Deep Burgundy (middle shade on bottom) together. Tea Rose and Plum (third shade from right) are great together for something purpley and smokey. These are just a few of the combinations I like, but of course, with a palette like this, the possibilities are endless.

I am really bad at taking photos of swatches, but luckily, some other blogs have already done some nice ones. Check out MakeupComa for some great swatches!

If you’re looking for an affordable neutral palette (or don’t want to shell out for Urban Decay’s Naked palettes), then this Sephora palette is definitely for you. With its price tag, it’s definitely worth picking it up for your collection.

Dark Lipsticks (MAC’s cult shades + a couple of dupes)

—

The Fall fashion season usually signifies a return to more dramatic lips for me. There are many dark vampy lipsticks in my arsenal but 2 of my absolute favorites of all time are MAC’s Diva (dark liver-red) and the harder-to-find blackened-plum Prince Noir which I believe is part of the Pro line.

While I can’t yet find a really good dupe for Prince Noir, which is DELICIOUSLY dark, the other 3 swatched here actually look pretty close once they’re on the lips. Diva is a warmer, more wearable alternative, while sharing the same intense matte texture as Prince Noir.

Raisin Rage from Revlon is pretty much an identical color to Diva, but the texture is creme instead of matte, so if you don’t like your lips feeling dry, then go with the Revlon.

The last is Wet n Wild’s Cherry Bomb which is almost between Prince Noir and Diva, though that might not be obvious in the image. It would work as a Prince Noir “almost-dupe” in a pinch.

This is a great post showing how you can get the same amazing color that these high end MAC lipsticks have from the drugstore. I’ve never tried Wet n Wild lipsticks but people swear by them! I personally am a big fan of Revlon’s lip colors, so maybe I’ll have to check out Raisin Rage for myself this fall.

Lisa Eldridge - Easy Dramatic Smoky Eye With Colour Technique

It’s not secret that Lisa Eldridge is one of my favorite YouTube make up gurus. Not only is she a very respected and talented professional make up artist but her videos are incredibly well done and the make up looks are always flawless. Every time she releases a video, I always watch and try to absorb everything she says and does.

This is a really great smokey eye look, especially for those of us who want something a bit more colorful than your typical black, navy or brown smokey eyes. It’s perfect for fall, especially with the purple beneath the eyes, and great for a night out. Also, it’s not as hard to do as you’d think!

Glam Bag - September

MyGlam recently rebranded itself as ipsy and this was the first Glam Bag under the new name. I’m not sure exactly why they rebranded (I thought MyGlam was fine) but the website has been completely revamped for the better. You can now fill out a beauty profile with your specifics (such as skintone, hair type, etc) and you can share pictures and videos with other members. It’s much more interactive than before and I think will help foster a community among ipsy subscribers.

I was actually pretty pleased with this Glam Bag! Here’s what I thought:

  • SOHO Smudge Brush - Whoops, I forgot to put this in the picture! It’s a really sturdy and nice brush for smudging and a good addition to any brush collection. Also comes with a cute how-to booklet for smokey eyes.
  • Circus nail polish in Tightrope - Now I have three out of the five Cirus colors! I have to say, I like this color the best out of all of them. Despite the fact that it’s super bright, it’s actually quite an autumn appropriate color and very pretty. The consistency is still a little blech, though; all Circus polishes seem to be a bit watery and do not apply smoothly.
  • Jane Sparkle Gloss - I looove this gloss! It’s non-drying and super pigmented, plus doesn’t get super sticky like other glosses. My color is bright pink and it’s not too loud; it’s actually super flattering and looks more natural than you’d think.
  • Carol’s Daughter Monoi Reparing Split End Sealer - I definitely have a split end problem because I wait so long between hair cuts. I’ve been applying it daily after showering and I have noticed my ends appear a bit smoother than before. Not a miracle worker, but it does help!
  • Mirabella Eye Color in Semiformal - This is a pretty universally flattering eye shadow, though nothing to write home about. Also, why did they just give us the tin with no case? I had a hard time figuring out where to put it after opening. Luckily I had a small spot open in one of my compacts.

Birchbox - September

Woohoo, Birchbox time! I’m so ready for some fall fashion and make up. I especially love that this box came with a sort of “look book” for the fall that had some really cute outfits, make up ideas and hair styles. What did I think of the products?

  • Vasanti BrightenUp! - This is a “enzymatic face rejuvenating” scrub that you’re supposed to use 2-3 times a week. I tried it last night and it really left my face feeling clean and soft! The scrub feels very sandy. So far I like it, since I have lots of dry skin on my face.
  • WEI to Go Sleep Over Kit - This pack contains two samples of their gel cleanser “Real Clean” and one sample size of their tinted moisturizer “Ideal Skin.” Haven’t tried it yet!
  • Color Club Nail Polish in Put a Pin in It - What a perfect fall color! It’s like a bronze metallic color and it’s really flattering. I like Color Club’s nail polishes in general; they go on smoothly and don’t chip easily. I put it on my nails last night and I’m a fan!
  • Brush Guard Variety Pack - I like the idea of brush guards but not sure how much I like these. They fit my brushes nicely and stay on well, but I noticed mine were beginning to rip as I put my brushes in. They don’t seem like they’ll last very long, but I do like that they sort of protect my brushes.
  • twistband Lace Hair Bands - I got one of these in pink in a previous Birchbox and I got a lace purple one this time. They’re pretty cute and they hold hair pretty well. Not as snug as I like my hair ties to be but they look really cute!
  • BVLGARI Mon Jasmin Noir - I have a cold so I can’t really smell it … but I love collecting travel size perfumes. I hope this isn’t a heavy scent.

Did you get a Birchbox this month?

Do or Don’t? Putting On Make Up in Public

I commute to work by subway every morning and I’ve started to notice just how many women are applying their make up during the ride. And I’m not talking about putting on some lipstick or something small like that; some women doing their entire make up routine while commuting.

There used to be a time where women would go to the powder room and come back fresh and applied, leaving the mystery of what they do to their face and hair behind closed doors. Nowadays, it’s much more common to see women touching up small things in the public view, which I think everyone is guilty of. (I keep lipstick and concealer on my desk at work for touch ups) And personally, it shouldn’t be a mystery to anyone anymore that ladies sometimes wear make up.

However, I personally feel that most of your make up routine should be done before you leave your home. Not only is putting on make up in a moving train (or car!) difficult (beware of bumps and crowds), but it can be incredibly unhygienic! Just thinking about how many surfaces I touch on the way to the subway, I wouldn’t want to put my hands anywhere near my face. Plus, you want to keep your make up and brushes as sanitary and germ-free as possible.

What do you think? Is putting on your make up in public a do or a don’t?

Bun’s Beauty Tips: Back to School

When the end of August approaches, it becomes Back to School season! Whether you’re going to middle school, high school or college, here are some great tips for staying beautiful during the school day.

  • Go for a simple look. Even though school is a place to express yourself, don’t overdo it! Stick with simple looks that emphasize your natural beauty. Also, the less products you use, the easier it is to touch up throughout the day.
  • Buy some fabulous accessories. The easiest way to put a little glam into your look is a great piece of jewelry, a nice handbag or an awesome hair clip. These will enhance your look without making you look overdone.
  • Dress appropriately. School is a place of learning, first and foremost, and you don’t want to wear clothes that are distracting to you or others. If you wear it on a night out, think about whether or not you should wear it to school!
  • Be smart when packing your makeup bag. Only put in what’s essential, like your lip color, lip balm, blotting papers, pressed powder and a mini mirror.
  • Go easy on the perfume. You don’t want the whole school to know when you walk by!
  • Be comfortable! Since you’ll be at school for many hours, you want to wear something you feel comfortable in, especially if you have to walk a lot. This goes for shoes too!
  • Get a great school bag. You have to carry around books and supplies to your classes, so get a chic bag that can holds everything and still looks great.
  • Stay hydrated! Classes can be long and you shouldn’t wait until they’re over to take a drink. Staying hydrated during the day will not only make you feel better, but make your skin and hair look better as well. Travel size moisturizing cream is also a must!

Hope everyone is ready for a new school year!
